Crossing the southern part of Leipzig New Lakeland is the boundary between the two German states of Saxony and Thuringia. And just a stone's throw away is Altenburg – a prominent Thuringian town.
Granted, none of the seven wonders of the ancient world are to be found in Dresden. Back then, the river was probably still busy sculpting the natural features of the local sandstone.
It was back in the early 20th century that the residents of Leipzig and Chemnitz first began to travel to the area around Kohren-Sahlis known locally as Kohrener Land for their summer holidays.
Apart from the delightful countryside, the area's rich heritage includes castles and palaces, monasteries and nunneries, spacious landscape gardens, and enchanting villages.
