Task and goals

Mission of the Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association

1. The mission of the Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association (Tourismusverein Leipziger Neuseenland e.V.) is to actively drive forward the development of tourism in Leipzig New Lakeland – a region in transformation. It encourages, promotes and coordinates the development of socially sustainable, ecological tourism as an economic factor in the area by for example:

  • Supporting its members in designing activities and services for specific target groups as well as marketing certain projects
  • The quality development and quality assurance of tourism services (by providing regular information about certification possibilities, organising further training courses, classifying holiday homes, and supporting the Saxon Quality Campaign)
  • Assisting in developing tourist-friendly structures at a local level
  • Assistance in the conceptual development and quality assurance of the tourism infrastructure (e.g. suitably signposted cycling, hiking and skating trails, regular quality control)
  • Development of communication strategies for different target groups

2. The Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association represents the common interests of all its members and partners in the field of tourism vis-à-vis organizations, public agencies and legislatures by:

  • Responding to investment projects relevant to tourism by local authorities and the tourism industry
  • Participating in various external focus groups e.g. the marketing board of the Saxon heathland and castle tourist board and the water sports group of Saxony's tourist board
  • Organizing and chairing focus groups in areas such as marketing and local authorities as well as regular get-togethers for employers
  • Working closely together with Saxony's regional tourist board, Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Saxon branch of the DEHOGA German Hotel and Restaurant Association, the ADFC German Cyclists' Federation and other tourism partners
  • Participating in regional conferences on problems of tourism in the area it covers

3. The Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association generates publicity for the entire Leipzig New Lakeland region by for instance:

  • Operating the tourism portal www.leipzigerneuseenland.de
  • Organizing representation of the entire area at selected travel fairs and related events
  • The production of advertising, especially thematic brochures for the Leipzig New Lakeland area
  • Contributing to promotional activities by the Saxon heathland and castle tourist board and Saxony's tourist board
  • Cooperating with the press and publishing houses, contributing to publications, providing editorial contributions for newspapers and magazines, organizing trips for journalists, looking after visiting journalists, and holding press calls
  • Placing advertising for the entire area as a travel destination in guidebooks, newspapers and magazines as well as organizing joint advertising campaigns

4. The Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association provides information on the entire area to the public, travel operators, journalists, travel associations and organizations etc by:

  • Recommending and brokering accommodation as well as leisure and relaxation services in the tourist information centres run by its members
  • Sending out literature
  • Regularly refilling about 20 sets of shelves with brochures throughout the area

5. Since 2004, the Leipzig New Lakeland Tourism Association has acted as a tour operator and travel agency, concentrating on:

  • The development of products in cooperation with local service providers (coordination of thematic activities, workshops)
  • The sale of bookable services and activities

Payable services

  • Classification of holiday homes and bed-and-breakfast accommodation using the standard German criteria advocated by the German tourist board
  • Advertising in various publications
  • Banner advertising on our website
  • Advertising and brokerage of bookable activities and services
  • Display of business brochures at travel fairs, exhibitions and other events
  • Joint participation in travel fairs and other marketing activities
  • Integration within our brochure display system
  • Sale of event and entrance tickets, souvenirs and regional products at tourist information centres
  • Further training courses
